Gorillapod; One of the coolest photo gadgets out there.

Sure, this isn’t so much a tip, as it is a suggestion. The gorillapod by Joby has got to be one of the coolest artifacts that you can add to your photography arsenal. I won’t go into the importance of a good tripod (we’ll cover that later, I promise) however, suffice it to say that every photographer needs a couple of tripods. The gorillapod bends and holds in the most precarious places enabling you to get the shots you need from the best angles.

There is no better small tripod for the journeyman photographer than the gorillapod. I’m just saying…

  • Did you buy ball head for it? I got my Gorillapod SLR-Zoom yesterday and thinking to buy Manfrotto 484rc2 for the ball head
  • looks like it would be fun to snatch a few photos with.
  • They have a large gorilla pod made for DSLR's with bigger zoom lenses. It should hold.
  • I'm wondering, will it hold my Canon 350d with battery grip with a Sigma 10-20 or Tamron 70-300?
  • I've had a few of these - initially the small version to use with a little Canon Ixus, and then later the DSLR version. The DSLR version in particular is very robust and will keep the camera still.

At one point, the top of one of the legs developped a crack in it, but after talking to Joby and sending them a photo of the problem, they sent me a replacement that arrived very soon afterwards.

If you get one - you'll love it I'm sure :)

Incidentally, I do use a proper tripod as well, but this thing bends nicely in to my camera bag for when I'm travelling (relatively) light.
