the reflection …Originally uploaded by Linhy
This morning I’ve spent the first moments of my day perusing the online photographic world. I do this mostly on flickr because it allows me to show you guys what I’m looking at without restriction and you are also easily directed to that photographer’s site.
I love photography, as I’m sure most of you do, and there is of course a huge benefit behind looking at other photographers works. Sometimes it can give you an idea for how to tackle your next project or simply just to inspire you to get out your camera and go shoot something.
So, we’ll start highlighting some other photographers here at Your Photo Tips to help guide you through the maze that is online photography. Most will be professional photographers, however I will be sharing with you some gems that I find from amateurs as well. It’s a fantastic way to explore how others see the world through their lens.
Today I’m highlighting this image from Linhy because it’s a great example of the rule of thirds we covered last week. You’ll note how the bright pink boots are in the upper left section of the photograph. The reflection in the water then makes your eye follow around the image to the bottom left section. Your eyes then seem to flow with the water towards the right and then up where the “negative space” is. There is just enough detail without too much clutter to create interest throughout the image. It’s a fantastic shot of a fantastic subject in an otherwise drab sort of setting. Using urban settings and bright cheerful subject matter can work tremendously well as they seem to juxtapose each other in such a curious way.
I certainly give this photograph very high marks!
