Weekend Perusing: Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness

borrow a view photoblog

Last week we featured an image by Niels Koopmans in our article on Does Film Make You A Better Photographer? and I thought his photoblog needed more exposure. So this week’s Featured Photoblog is borrow a view! Aside from being a fairly active member in the photo-blogosphere, Niels is a tremendously talented photographer from The Netherlands and primarily photographs Urbex (urban exploration). His eye for making the broken down and decayed look rather beautiful and stunning puts his photoblog in the “must subscribe” realm. Go check it out.

When I look at Niels’ photoblog I often wonder how dirty and grungy his equipment can get. Then I come across an article written by Canon Blogger. Jason Anderson writes about cleaning your gear and how he has essentially turned it into a ritual. Not a bad idea, especially if your photography has you parading through old abandoned buildings.

Because cleaning your equipment is very important here are a couple more articles that touch on the subject:

How to Clean Your Digital SLR is a good how-to by our friends at Mahalo

For those of you who prefer visual instructions ala YouTube here’s Cleaning the sensor on your DSLR camera

In Your Photo Tips news I wanted to thank everyone who added their photography related website to the photography directory page at top. There is still plenty of room for more sites so don’t forget to add your photography related website to the photography directory today!

Now, here are some reader’s images from the Your Photo Tips Flickr Group.

About the Author:

  • yes, cleaning is very important, some do not do it much for fear of damaging their camera, you have some nice links for good how- to's !
  • I think that's the best attitude to have though, gear is there to do the job you bought it for. To be too careful defeats the purpose of buying something useful! That being said, I'm alwas careful for the first few weeks with something new, but then it's business as usual after that.
  • Thanks Damien!

And indeed, I clean my gear very often. Not only because I'm relatively careful with it, it is also necessary due to the locations I visit.
I say relatively careful because for me it is just a tool. When I'm shooting I don't want to think about how it could break or get dirty and yes, afterward my camera bag is filled with the most strange stuff :)
