35 Outstanding Images From Our Flickr Group

Ahhh, it’s the weekend. Today we’re going to give some appreciation to the readers in our Your Photo Tips Flickr Group.

There were many reasons behind using Flickr groups as a community meeting place for the website.

  1. I wanted a place for the readers of this blog to be able to communicate with each other and help each other with questions and critiques.
  2. I wanted to be able to find my readers’ photographic images and highlight them as an appreciation for reading the blog, leaving comments, and sending in emails. All of these things really help me put content together and address your needs as they come up.
  3. I am not a “jack of all trades” photographer (no one should be). Which means that if I’m discussing a particular photography tip or technique for a genre I do not actively practice, then I have to go create some photographs of that genre from scratch. That quickly became limiting because of logistics and time. By using your images submitted to the group pool I can write about almost any topic of photography without having to create, or search extensively for images, as examples and double check their creative commons status. This also allows me to highlight one of you as a photographer in almost every post by linking to your Flickr page and any other websites I find in your profile page.

When we started the group about 6 months ago or so, I didn’t really know how well it would do. Truthfully I hadn’t realized exactly how many people were reading this blog and was somewhat afraid that no one would join the group.

How wrong was I?

As of today there are 1,501 members in the group, 4,787 photos submitted, and 59 posts with many discussions going on inside those posts. That’s a lot of people wanting to share their photography with all of us!

I wanted to thank each and every one of you for sharing your work, your hobby, and your passion for photography. Without you, there would be no website.

I’m constantly amazed by the images posted to the group pool. Every weekend I have the honor to look through the latest submissions to pull out only 10 images. Every week this process becomes harder and harder because the quality of the images is getting better by leaps and bounds.

You guys are awesome!

If you aren’t part of the Your Photo Tips Flickr Group then head on over today and join the group and don’t forget to add me as a contact. Enjoy!
