Weekend Perusing: A Photographer’s Life

A Photographer's Life

A Photographer's Life

This week’s “Featured Photoblog” is A Photographer’s Life by Igno van Neikerk.  This photoblog works really well on a number of levels.  The photographer uses lot’s of text to help turn a “viewing” experience into a “reading” experience and you really get a sense for what this photographer is all about.  The simple black setting of the blog allows for the images to maintain a stronger presence and allow the viewer to be immersed in the photographs.

In the photoblogosphere

Ed Zawadzki over at F/1.0 has decided to shoot exclusively black and white for a whole month. I mention it because sometimes we need to shake things up in order to get our creative juices kicked into high gear. I’m contemplating doing the same sort of thing although I haven’t decided exactly what I want to do yet.

Over at Shoot The Blog they’ve discovered a new shoe line up that should get some photographers pretty excited.

Has the_wolf-brigade gone mad? Maybe he’s just gone a little crazy for Brian Auer’s project at Epic Edits Weblog on his $50 project, which is a fantastic project to participate in.

In photography news

Of course Thomas Hawk has some more info on photographer harassment. It’s really becoming a re-occurring theme on his blog lately.

And if that isn’t enough “photography is not a crime” news type stuff, head over to Lighting Mods where they have several videos of photographers getting harassed. Maybe I should devote a whole section to this type of news as it seems to be getting worse every week.

In art photography

If you’re interested in getting your work submitted to a show The 23rd Annual International Juried Show, Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, NY is open.

If you’re a JPG Mag JPGer then you’ll be happy to note the new profile page which really makes things much better over there. By the way, if you are a JPGer then give me a holler.

In photography business

Do you have a photoblog? Are people finding it? If you’re pouring your heart out into your photoblog and aren’t receiving the love you need to learn some SEO for photoblogs.

In photography tech

Cameras these days are getting crazier and crazier. Here’s a cool looking Ying Yang camera.

Of course there are the announcements for the two new DSLR’s by both Canon and Nikon. I’m sure you already have read about them somewhere so I won’t worry about linking you to any specific site. It’s all echo anyway. In case you really don’t know, Canon released the 50D and Nikon is releasing the D90. Google ‘em.

In Your Photo Tips news

We are currently reading The Camera by Ansel Adams as part of the Your Photo Tips Photography Book Club. I’m expecting my copy to come in today and I can’t wait. This reading will actually be a little longer because I really want the book club to start at the beginning of the month instead of the middle. So we’ll actually do the review at the end of next month (September 2008). Also, we’ll be voting on which book will be next for the Book Club, so if you would like a particular book to be considered just leave a suggestion in the comments section below.

Are you on Facebook? I’d love to become friends or you can join the Your Photo Tips Blog Network on Facebook and don’t forget to rate the blog!

Now, for my favorite part of every weekend. Here are some fantastic images from the Your Photo Tips Flickr Group. Enjoy!

About the Author:

  • When I was young, I would like becoming a photographer, but years passwed, I am still a student, crazy think...
  • Whoops! Forgot to add that I'm almost finished "The Camera". I've read bits of it before, though this will probably be the first time I've read it completely through.

I'm interested to see peoples opinions on it. Coming from a film perspective I suspect will change the way I see it compared to others who shoot primarily digital. That being said, I do think it offers a great deal to people who wish to develop their skills.

As for that ying yang camera? Not quite sure how practical that would be....
  • Hehe. I appreciate the publicity :)

Although I think that anyone who has seen my fridge can confirm that I really have lost the plot! :D
  • I have followed the Red One video camera developments and I find myself wondering if this will impact the still camera world. Given that video cameras really capture a series of still images and that the Red One team has made a breakthrough in terms of the image sensor itself, I wonder how if this technology will find its way into still cameras. Any thoughts?
