Weekend Perusing: Resurrection

Well, it’s been a while since we did a Weekend Perusing edition. This was due in part to a very hectic schedule in December and January but now that things are back to normal we’ll be moving forward with this wonderful section. For those of you that are new to the website: Welcome! Please enjoy your visit.

In Image Rights News:

Heather Morton of Heather Morton Art Buyer is moderating an event titled No Uncertain Terms that aims at dealing with questions surrounding standardizing image licensing. If you’re on your way to selling, licensing, or buying images then you should definitely take a look. The event is Monday so register ASAP.

In the Photoblogosphere:

Frederick Van has a great little interview with his buddy Steve Simon on his blog so if you’re a fan of TWIP (and I know you are) or love photojournalism this video is for you.

Photonovice takes a look at visual inspiration that comes not from photography but rather from an old master. I learned long ago that in all art forms the more you “cross study” the better off you’ll be.

In Photo Post Production Talk:

EarthBound Light takes a look at the New Review Mode in Adobe Bridge CS4. I don’t upgrade photoshop every time they come out with a new version, but this is pretty compelling for those that use Bridge.

My Camera World takes a break from the cold and shows you an alternative way to masking using ACR.

Photography Contest and Assignment:

All of you fashionistas head over to The Fashion Photography Blog to enter their contest on Your Promo Cards. I’m very interested to see all of the entries. I’ve always had a fondness for fashion photography.

Rob Nunn is currently running a Long Term Assignment For 2009 at his Flickr Group for this blog and podcast. It sounds like a great source of inspiration and worth looking into.

Camera Tech:

Scott’s Photo Blog goes over the Canon 40D’s recent firmware update. For those of you that don’t own that particular camera it should still serve as a reminder to check your manufacturer’s website to see if you do have the latest firmware for your camera.

Photo Business:

If you’re looking into getting “Discovered” then a look into Exhibitions for Amateur Photographers may be in order. Photopreneur is always good for giving great tips on a different kind of exposure (yes, that’s a pun).

Art:

Following the blog of other artists (read: not photographers) is a great way to stay inspired. This week I encourage you to have a gander at Updates on my journeys: on the road, creatively and life. a blog by Ryann Rathbone. She’s a very talented, raw, and open artist giving an insight into her creative process and her artistic journey. This is one to subscribe to. Oh, and buy some of her artwork. My wife and I are in the process of closing on a new home *knocking on wood* and I need some new artwork for the walls. I’ll be buying some work from her for sure!

In Your Photo Tips News:

There’s an open discussion on some possible changes to the website that I’d love to have your input on. If you are not a Flickr member and would like to add your input feel free to contact me via email.

The photo contest for January is almost over but you do still have a little time left to enter the contest with a theme of “Change”. Sadly, the prize is only available to United States residents because of crazy international contest laws. You can enter the contest here.

Did you get your copy of Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera (Updated Edition) (Paperback)? for the Photography Book Club? I’ll be reviewing the book shortly so don’t forget to get your reviews to my email as soon as possible. Next month’s book? You’ll have to put your vote in on that one. The poll is in the sidebar to the right.

And the biggest reason I missed Weekend Perusing the most was your images. Enjoy!
