Cool Article of the Week

Art Fag City has an awesome article on the sometimes unusual photography captured by Google’s Street View cameras. Awesome.

Photo Gadgets

Ever wanted to do aerial photography without actually going into the air. The Draganflyer X4 UAV may be just what you need. Or you can get it just because it’s kinda cool.

The rumors of the Apple Tablet have most fanboys dreaming of what it can do for their lives (yes, I have those dreams too). Even photography blogs aren’t immune to a little Apple rumor milling. Admittedly…I think photographers would love it. Or maybe it’s just me. Whatever.

Samsung Announces Dual-Screen TL220 and TL225, Wireless CL65 with GPS. Why dual screens? So you can take self portraits and put them on MySpace. You know…for those of you still using MySpace. I’m just saying.

Photo Essay

AMERICANSUBURBX has a great article on the Stylistic Trials and Documentary Tribulations in Richard Avedon’s In the American West by Samantha Krukowski. “He has presented us with images of people who have not prospered in the West, yet has removed them from their context and exposed them to highly technical photography processes which leave us unable to identify or sympathize with them.” Agreed.

Film

Shooting film or giving film a go? Getting those images on your computer can be a little overwhelming. XEQUALS+BLOG has the first article of a two part series on Film to Digital-Scanning Essentials. This is especially perfect if you want to use Lightroom.

Ever wonder what the first cameras used by famous photogrphers were? Black Star Rising has a great article on first cameras by Qiana Mestrich. I still have my first camera. Do you? Was it film or digital?

In the Photoblogosphere

Once again Flickr has it’s users in an uproar. Thomas Hawk reports an update to Edelson Flores’ account deletion from Flickr. This is certainly not the first time this has happened and don’t expect it to be the last.

Who doesn’t love some great photographs of high speed photography? Can’t. get. enough.

Press Release

Nikon has announced the winners of the Nikon Photo Contest International 2008-2009.
