Taryn Simon Photographs Secret Sites

Sometimes we forget how powerful photography can be. We use it in such varying aspects of our lives that we ignore how photography can impact others.
Taryn Simon is a fine art photographer who understands this relationship and the impact that photography can have on people. Her series The Innocents documents cases of wrongful conviction in the United States and investigates the role of photography in that process. Her most recent body of work is a series of photographs titled An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar. Simon is also known for her photographs documenting international regions in turmoil.
Here’s a video clip from her speech at TED. The speech is as powerful as her work, which is as powerful as she is. This is another example of why Photography Matters.
